The Cape Town Sanlam Marathon aims to provide the best possible experience for runners. Every decision made by the organisation is aimed at continuously improving the experience for participants.
As part of its bid to become the first Abbott World Marathon Major in Africa, the date has been moved to May, providing ideal conditions: cooler weather, less risk of overheating and better performance.
Additionally, during this period Cape Town’s winds are milder, making it easier to achieve personal records and creating an overall more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Arrival at Cape Town airport. Hotel check-in is at 3:00 PM. The rest of the afternoon is free to relax or take a first walk in the surrounding area.
Day 2 program
May 21, 2027
The day starts with a morning run on the beach of Atlantic Seapoint.
This is followed by a guided tour of important points of the city, such as the Castle of Good Hope, City Hall, the Company Gardens, Parliament, the Planetarium, the South African Museum, the colorful Bo-Kaap district and the District Six Museum.
An optional lunch will follow at Time Out Cape Town and then transfer to the Marathon Expo to pick up your participation package.
Day 3 program
May 22, 2027
Visit to Table Mountain with fast track tickets and cable car access.
Don’t forget to bring your racing gear for unforgettable photos with the panoramic view of Cape Town in the background.
The afternoon is free for relaxation, shopping or a stroll at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

The big day has arrived.
Participation in the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon 2027, the newest member of the Abbott World Marathon Majors.
After finishing, the team returns to the hotel for rest and recovery.
In the evening, there is an optional dinner option at GOLD Restaurant, an authentic African experience with traditional flavors and entertainment.
